The typical Murfreesboro home was built in 2002, per Census survey data. Unless they were replaced, its water heater, faucets, toilet parts and supply lines have more than 20 years of use. Under some yards, limestone sits within inches of the surface. There, reaching a broken sewer or water line can mean digging through rock.
Stop The Drip is a plumbing company for homes across Middle Tennessee, and Murfreesboro is part of our service area. As your plumber in Murfreesboro, we clear clogged drains and main lines and repair or replace water heaters. We also fix leaks and repair the sewer and water lines under the yard. Call or text (615) 723-2488 and tell us what is going on.
Tell us about the clog, leak, water heater or fixture and where it is. We look at the job and put the quote in writing.
Murfreesboro has grown fast. The Census Bureau counted 108,755 residents in 2010 and 152,769 in 2020, and its latest estimate tops 171,000. Its building permit survey shows about 1,000 new single-family homes authorized each year over the last three years.
Most of the housing is young. More than half of the city's homes went up in 2000 or later. The 2010s alone added about 28 percent of them. Homes built before 1980 make up about 18 percent, and their drain and supply pipes may be original.
Three in four homes here heat with electricity and about one in four with utility gas, per Census figures. We repair gas and electric tank water heaters. When an older tank starts leaking, water heater replacement is usually the next step.
Murfreesboro sits on limestone. At Stones River National Battlefield, the Park Service points to rock outcrops and sinkholes, the marks of karst ground. Its cedar glades show bare limestone and thin, gravelly topsoil.
Depth to rock varies across the city. In NRCS soil data sampled inside the city, most spots have no bedrock recorded within about 6.5 feet. About 12 percent fall in soil units where rock can sit within 20 inches of the surface. So a trench for a sewer line repair can hit limestone on one lot and not the next.
The same NRCS data rates most of the city's soils high for corrosion of uncoated steel. Buried steel or galvanized pipe has a hard life in this ground. Before anyone digs, Tennessee law calls for a locate ticket through Tennessee 811 at least three working days ahead. The utilities mark their own lines, not your private sewer or water line.
Murfreesboro Water Resources Department is the city's water utility, and it runs wastewater and stormwater too. Its water report names two sources, the East Fork of the Stones River and Percy Priest Lake. Consolidated Utility District of Rutherford County serves more than 70,000 accounts across the county. Your water bill shows which utility serves your address.
The city utility's water report recommends vacuum breakers on hose bibs. Consolidated Utility District requires a reduced pressure backflow preventer on any service with an irrigation system. The district requires a test when the device goes in and every year after that. We put in new backflow preventers and repair or replace failed ones on irrigation and water service lines.
NOAA's 1991 to 2020 normals for Murfreesboro show about 89 days a year with lows of 32 or colder. January lows average 27.5 degrees. The median first fall freeze lands around October 27, and the last spring freeze around April 9.
Consolidated Utility District notes that plastic and copper pipes can both burst when they freeze. It also recommends unhooking garden hoses when not in use, so the spigot line does not burst. Pipes in a crawl space or an outside wall are the most exposed.
If a pipe splits, shut off the water at the main valve. On a Consolidated Utility District meter, the shutoff sits on the meter unit and may look like a stove knob. Then call or text (615) 723-2488, and we find the break and repair it.

Called the business and was able to get a same day appointment for my clogged kitchen drain and broken garbage disposal. They replaced the garbage disposal and did a hydro jetting. Throughout the process Freddie was very professional, friendly, and informative. He let me know all the steps of the process, gave options and his recommendations. At the end of the day, everything is fixed and he performed multiple tests to verify their work. Overall satisfied with this company .
We found a water leak lastnight , messaged stop the drip and they came out this morning at 8am. Found the leak, explained to us what happed, fixed it & referred us to someone for restoration and they are already on the way here to help us. An hr and a half later. I’m so so happy with my experience and will definitely be recommending them to anyone looking for a plumber.
I rarely leave reviews, but Freddy from Stop The Drip LLC absolutely earned this one. I’ve worked with a lot of plumbers over the years, and honestly, most of the time you can’t even get a callback. Good communication and reliability seem rare these days. That’s why working with Freddy was such an outstanding experience. I called him on a Sunday afternoon, and he actually answered the phone. He told me he’d be there Monday afternoon, then followed up Monday morning to let me know exactly when he would arrive and showed up right on time. Not only was his communication and professionalism top notch, but he was also able to quickly find exactly what was wrong and take care of the issue without any hassle. It’s hard to find service like this anymore. I’ll definitely be recommending Freddy from Stop The Drip LLC to everyone I know, and he is officially my go to plumber for all my plumbing needs moving forward.
Freddy came out to work on our hot water tank. He was very knowledgeable and explained everything to me and my husband.. he did an excellent job fixed everything I recommend Highly
