A sewer backup in Smyrna starts with one question: is the clog on the town's side or the house side? Smyrna Utilities clears blockages from the street cleanout to the main. The town asks customers to call it first when a sewer line stops up or the water pressure drops. When the trouble sits between the house and that cleanout, a plumber in Smyrna takes it from there.
Stop The Drip is a plumbing company serving Nashville, La Vergne and Middle Tennessee. Smyrna is part of our service area, and La Vergne next door sits at the center of it. Smyrna has grown fast. The 2010 Census counted 39,974 people, and the 2020 count reached 53,070. The Census Bureau's latest estimate puts the town past 63,000.
Census survey data puts the median build year at 2000, and about one home in five predates 1980. Front Street, the historic district locals call the Old Downtown, grew up around the old railroad depot. About four homes in ten are rented. We work for homeowners first, and for landlords and property managers too.
Home age shows up in small parts. The town's cross connection brochure says homes built from 1992 on got outdoor faucets with a vacuum breaker built in. On an older faucet, a hose bibb vacuum breaker screws on and does the same job. The brochure also asks for an anti-siphon valve whenever a toilet's valve gets replaced.
Smyrna Utilities is a town department, and it treats surface water from the Stones River and Percy Priest Lake. The plant softens that water with lime. The town says this nearly did away with the white flakes and water heater deposits hard water leaves. Its target hardness is 55 to 75 milligrams per liter, about 3.2 to 5.8 grains per gallon.
The town's water and wastewater crews fix water main leaks and look after the meters. Past the meter, the line to the house and the pipes inside are where a plumber works. Field checks of service lines put in before July 1988 turned up no lead service lines in the town's system.
Smyrna runs two separate sewer systems. The sanitary sewer takes household waste to the treatment plant, and the storm system takes rain straight to the river. The town's flood prep tips list check valves and a sump pump with a battery. We install sump pumps with battery backup.
Smyrna Natural Gas, part of the town's utility, serves Smyrna and La Vergne. Census figures show about one Smyrna home in four heats with utility gas. If gas runs in your street but not to the house, the town charges a tap fee.
Where the town supplies the gas, a gas permit from its Building Safety Department comes first. Two inspections follow. At rough-in, the inspector views a pressure test held at 10 psi for at least 15 minutes. At the final, every appliance must be hooked up, or each open line capped with a shutoff valve.
After the final passes, the gas department turns the gas on at the meter, with you there. Our gas line installation covers new lines for ranges, dryers, water heaters, grills and generators, plus gas line repair. If you smell gas, the town says to get out right away without touching any electrical switches.
Federal soil maps show limestone under much of Smyrna, with rock outcrops mapped across large parts of town. In the Gladeville soils found here, bedrock can sit just 3 to 12 inches down. The town's stormwater program also asks residents to keep its streams and sinkholes clean. The same maps rate most of that soil high for corroding bare steel pipe.
That rock changes a dig. A sewer line repair here can reach limestone a few inches under the grass, and that adds time. Smyrna's amended code puts the minimum sewer depth at 12 inches and the minimum water service pipe at 1 inch. Before any digging, Tennessee law calls for a Tennessee 811 locate ticket at least three working days ahead.
The town's design criteria list a 12-inch frost line, but crawl space pipes have no soil over them. In the December 2022 cold snap, the Nashville airport hit 1 below zero, and highs stayed below freezing for days. For extreme cold, the town's winter page suggests letting water run slightly, if that suits your home. If a pipe splits anyway, shut off the water at the main and call or text us.

Called the business and was able to get a same day appointment for my clogged kitchen drain and broken garbage disposal. They replaced the garbage disposal and did a hydro jetting. Throughout the process Freddie was very professional, friendly, and informative. He let me know all the steps of the process, gave options and his recommendations. At the end of the day, everything is fixed and he performed multiple tests to verify their work. Overall satisfied with this company .
We found a water leak lastnight , messaged stop the drip and they came out this morning at 8am. Found the leak, explained to us what happed, fixed it & referred us to someone for restoration and they are already on the way here to help us. An hr and a half later. I’m so so happy with my experience and will definitely be recommending them to anyone looking for a plumber.
I rarely leave reviews, but Freddy from Stop The Drip LLC absolutely earned this one. I’ve worked with a lot of plumbers over the years, and honestly, most of the time you can’t even get a callback. Good communication and reliability seem rare these days. That’s why working with Freddy was such an outstanding experience. I called him on a Sunday afternoon, and he actually answered the phone. He told me he’d be there Monday afternoon, then followed up Monday morning to let me know exactly when he would arrive and showed up right on time. Not only was his communication and professionalism top notch, but he was also able to quickly find exactly what was wrong and take care of the issue without any hassle. It’s hard to find service like this anymore. I’ll definitely be recommending Freddy from Stop The Drip LLC to everyone I know, and he is officially my go to plumber for all my plumbing needs moving forward.
Freddy came out to work on our hot water tank. He was very knowledgeable and explained everything to me and my husband.. he did an excellent job fixed everything I recommend Highly
